Madrigal Choir Presents Christmas Concert Nov. 18


Las Vegas, N.M. – The New Mexico Highlands University Madrigal Choir will present A Classical Christmas concert Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. in the university’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.

The madrigal choir will perform Christmas anthems, oratios and compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Henry Purcell, Camille Saint-Saëns, Samuel Barber, and John Rutter.

Andre Garcia-Nuthmann, director of Highlands University’s choral program, will direct the concert. Music faculty member Linda King is the piano accompanist.

Guest soloist Sarah Weiler of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale will perform the alto solos in the Bach and Saint-Saëns pieces.

Music students who are vocal soloists include Autumn Woods, alto, Joseph Rivera, tenor, T.J. Harris, baritone, and Brandon Romero, baritone and bass.

Highlands University music graduate Nicole Robinson will perform the soprano solos.

Music students Jason Torres and Daniel Torres will each conduct a piece for the concert.

The musical selections for the concert include Mozart’s Regina Coeli, Purcell’sMagnificant, Bach’s Uns ist ein Kind Geboren, Saint Saëns’ Christmas Oratio, Barber’s Sure On This Shining Night, and Rutter’s Gaelic Blessings.

All tickets are $5. Highlands University students with valid IDs are free.
