Peer Advisers

Meet our AWESOME Peer Advisers!

Hey!  I'm Adam Alvidrez. I am originally from Long Beach in sunny Southern California. What brought me out to New Mexico Highlands University was football, but after a devastating knee injury I could no longer pursue my football career. I became a peer adviser because I personally feel and know that I can reach out to students who are having a rough time copping with being away from home for the very first time. Coming from a big city and trying to make that transition to a very small town is quite rough, but if students have peers to talk to, it makes their stay here at New Mexico Highlands University much more enjoyable. As a peer adviser, I help students with pretty much anything from social issues that students are dealing with to dealing with academics and informing students what's going on here at the university. Come and stop by in the Felix Martinez Building in the Office of Academic Support just to say hi! Looking forward to seeing you!

Ya'ateeh, my name is Latanya Burbank, your Native peer adviser in the Office of Academic Support. My goal as a peer adviser is to reach out to students who need somebody to talk to about on campus activities, educational help, or just about everyday life. I'm majoring in political science and originally from Window Rock, Arizona. I'm from the Navajo tribe, a sophomore, and enjoy taking advantage of campus activities.

My name is Michaelann Cavazos.  I am a senior here at New Mexico Highlands University.  My major is social work and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to make a difference in the world. I was born and raised right here in little Las Vegas and, yes, there is lots of stuff to do here, you just have to find it.  Just give me a call, and I’ll give you some ideas on fun things to do!  I love to dance and am a member of Los Rumberos Salsa Club. I also work in the Office of Academic Support as a peer adviser and can help my fellow students and friends get through college.  I want you all to have a great time academically and socially here at NMHU.

My name is Vanessa Torres. I was born and raised on a farm in Belen, New Mexico. I have two sisters, and I enjoy spending time with my family and going to church. I hope one day I can help children by becoming a counselor or psychologist. I enjoy being a peer adviser  because I can help others in any way, shape, or form, and work with people who feel the same as me. I love working as a team and achieving our goals together.

My name is Seandee Rena Roseby. I am a transfer senior student from Texas Southern University where, like here at Highlands, I ran cross country and track and field.  Here at NMHU, I am a member of the Black Student Association, the president of the Crossroads Art Club, a senator on Student Senate as well as the 2008 homecoming queen.  I am majoring in preprofessional health, working my to becoming a dentist. I am also working on getting two minors: fine art and chemistry. My hobbies consist of sports, drawing, and holiday crafts. As a peer adviser, I am here for all students, from school-related issues to personal issues.  Our office always has an open-door policy.
