The School of Education offers an undergraduate secondary minor and licensure. The program is offered on the main campus in Las Vegas, New Mexico and at the three Highlands centers. The centers include the Rio Rancho Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico; the San Juan Center in Farmington, New Mexico, and the Santa Fe Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The program is offered both onsite and via Distance Education courses.

All secondary education licensure or minor candidates must have a “declared major or equivalent” within the content area(s) of their choice. Because of the complexity of the minor and licensure requirements, candidates must see a secondary education adviser. There are general education core and extended core requirements. Advisers are available at all centers/sites. Candidates must pass the basic skills section of the NMTA in order to be admitted to the School of Education. Candidates must pass the content knowledge section of the NMTA in order to be admitted to field- based II. Courses listed do not reflect the sequence in which they should be taken.
