The Volcano Within: Anger Management
One of the most poorly handled emotions in our society is anger. At one time or another, all of us have experienced this potent feeling. Some of the most common causes of anger include: hurt; frustration; annoyance; harassment; disappointment; and threats.
Anger can be useful, or it can be detrimental, depending on the way we choose to express it. Knowing how to recognize this feeling and expressing it appropriately can help us to reach our goals, solve problems, handle emergencies, and protect our health. A failure to recognize and understand one's anger can lead to a variety of personal difficulties.
Unexpressed anger can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure or heart disease. Unexpressed anger can also cause feelings of helplessness which often produces depression. Anger may be reduced with such methods as relaxation, meditation, counting to ten, or even talking about it.
