Student Support Services

Getting through college takes skill. That's why qualified New Mexico Highlands University students have an opportunity to be a part of a program called Student Support Services.

Student Support Services is a federally funded "Trio" program. Trio programs were established by the U.S. Congress to help low-income Americans enter college and graduate. These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, and are designed to help students overcome class, social, academic, and cultural barriers to higher education.

Student Support Services

The program offers the following services:

• Academic Assistance
• Career & Major Development
• Personal Counseling
• Tutoring
• Peer Mentoring
• Supplemental Grant Aid
• Social, Educational and Cultural Enrichment Opportunities
• Financial Aid Assistance
• Assistance for Students with Disabilities

To qualify to become part of the student support services program, students must submit an application and meet one of the three following requirements:

• First Generation - Neither parent received a four-year college degree before student turned 18.
• Low Income Student - Student's taxable income meets a federal standard.
• Disability - Student has either a certified or verified physical or learning disability.
