Community Meeting Jan. 27 at Highlands for Campus Master Plan Update

New Mexico Highlands University will host a community meeting to present the campus master plan update and receive public comment Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Margaret Kennedy Alumni Hall, 905 University Ave.

The Jan. 27 community meeting is part of an ongoing campus master plan update process that started early in 2009. Light refreshments will be served at the meeting.

“Updating our campus master plan is part of an overall strategy to create the most attractive and functional campus possible for Highlands University now and well into the future,” said Highlands University President Jim Fries.

The update of the campus master plan defines a long-term vision for the university’s main campus. The purpose of the plan is to define a physical vision for the future growth of the campus that supports the university’s strategic plan.

Architects for the campus master plan update are with studioINSITE, an award-winning architectural and planning firm based in Denver. Dennis Ruppa, studioINSITE principal, and Chris Geddes, senior associate, will be presenting at the Jan. 27 meeting.

The university’s Master Plan Committee has worked with studioINSITE throughout the process for updating the campus master plan.

The university held a community meeting in April 2009 to receive public comment on the master plan update scenarios. The university posted these initial scenarios on its Web site with a banner requesting public comment. Numerous comments were received.
