NMHU Theatre presents Waiting for Godot

New Mexico Highlands Theatre will present the play, “Waiting for Godot,” by Samuel Becket, February 18th, 19th and 20th at 7 p.m. in Room 9 in the Music Building.

The play is a tragic-comedy about two characters, Vladimir and Estrogon who travels into the country to wait for a man, Godot, who has promised them money and jobs. The play takes place right after the end of World War II.

“This play is an examination of what it is to live in a universe where nothing is certain,” theatre professor Robert Woods said.

Woods said he feels that the script revolves around a particular time in Becket’s life.

“Becket was a member of the French underground,” Woods said. “His job was to carry messages from one resistance cell to another.”

In between these times Becket waited for his instructions.

Woods said it is also a play about getting older and how much harder it is to make your life mean something. “Waiting for Godot” is one of the most prominent plays from the Theatre of the Absurd movement.

Cast members include Juan Diego Chavez as Vladimir, Victor Ramirez as Estrogon, Kat Gould as Pozo, Betty Quick as Lucky and James Case as The Boy.

General admission is $8, faculty and staff, senior citizens and high school students is $5, and Highlands University students are free with student ID.
