Music Americana Concert April 14 in Ilfeld
Las Vegas, N.M. – The New Mexico Highlands University Concert Choir will present a Music Americana concert April 14 at 3 p.m. in the university’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.
The concert choir will perform favorites like a Gershwin Songbook by George and Ira Gershwin, God Bless America by Irving Berlin, America the Beautiful by Joseph Joubert, Joyful, Joyful by Mervyn Warren, a medley of songs including Beautiful Dreamer by Stephen Foster, Swingin’ With the Saints, a traditional spiritual, and more.
Andre García-Nuthmann, director of Highlands University’s choral and vocal program, will direct the concert.
Lydia Madrick of the Santa Fe Symphony is the piano accompanist. She has also accompanied the Santa Fe Symphony Chorus and the Santa Fe Community Chorus, among others.
Vocal soloists include music minor student Kemoy Christie, a mezzo soprano, and community members Janie Chavez, Joseph Cooney, Erin Gilland, Brett Gilland, and Betty Thompson.
The Highlands University Concert Choir is composed of Highlands University students, faculty and staff as well as members of the Las Vegas community.
Jazzology, a jazz choral group composed of Highlands University students and community members, will also perform at the concert. Jazzology will present a medley of five Rodgers and Hammerstein songs from their musical South Pacific. Local pianist Ann Mishler will be the piano accompanist.
All tickets are $5. Highlands University students with valid IDs are free.
