Madrigal Choir Performs Haydn Concert in Ilfeld
Las Vegas, N.M. – The New Mexico Highlands University Madrigal Choir presents Joseph Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross in concert April 21 at 3 p.m. in the university’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.
Andre García-Nuthmann, director of Highlands University’s choral and vocal program, will direct the concert. Linda King, music faculty member and concert pianist, is the piano accompanist.
Music students who will sing solos include Karliz de Marco, soprano, Leanna Abeyta, second soprano, Autumn Woods, alto, Michael Rascon, tenor, and Daniel Torres, bass.
The Austrian-born Haydn was one of the most prominent and prolific composers of the classical period, and is often called the Father of the Symphony.
Haydn composed The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Crossin 1785 or 1786 for the Roman Catholic Good Friday service at the Cádiz Cathedral in Cádiz, Spain.
All tickets are $5. Highlands University students with valid IDs are free.
