Course Opportunities
NMHU-Raton tailors its courses to meet your needs. These courses provide residents of Raton and surrounding communities, from northeastern New Mexico and southern Colorado an opportunity to take courses leading towards degree completion. Courses are offered via live instruction, interactive television (ITV), and online. Classes are held in the mornings, late afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays.
NMHU-Raton currently offers courses in elementary education, early childhood multicultural education, accounting, management, finance and criminal justice. Starting spring 2010, RN-BSN courses will be offered via Distance Education.
NMHU-Raton offers courses that may possibly lead to a master's program that is tailored for the working professional. Courses offered are in curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, rehabilitation counseling, exercise and sport sciences and business administration.
Dual Credit Opportunities
The Dual Credit Program is an option available to juniors and seniors at the Raton Public High School, Maxwell Municipal Schools, Springer Municipal Schools, Roy Municipal Schools and Cimarron Municipal Schools. Dual credit is a program that allows high school students to enroll in 100-and 200-level college courses prior to high school graduation, giving them enrichment opportunities and first-hand experience with the requirements of college work. New Mexico Highlands University waives the tuition and general fees for students participating in this program. To qualify to participate in this program, students must be either high school juniors or seniors, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 as a junior or 2.0 as a senior, submit an official high school transcript, ACT or COMPASS scores, and complete the necessary forms with required signatures from the parents or guardians, their high school, and the NMHU dual credit coordinator.
